In the past this street was the part of the "recta papalis" way for the papal processions. The present name of the street "Monserrato" comes from the Church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of the famous Spanish sanctuary of Monserrat, 60 km far from Barcelona. The church was build in 1518 but its origins go back to the years. The Home for the old Chapel will become the small church of S. Niccolò a Corte Savella, and after its demolition will be built the present S.Maria del Monserrato.
